Having gained a BA Hons in Illustration in 2000, the first port of call with painting was to combine my interests in art and music to produce a series of iconic star portraits.
By 2005 I had built up a substantial body of work and under the series title ‘Cult Rock’ I began to exhibit. In 2007 I went live with my own website, which is proving to be a good source for networking and advertising my exhibitions.
Although mainly portrait based, the theme of my work deals with identity, mortality and self-evaluation.
My intention is not to employ the shock sensationalizm used by many current artists in their work but to produce interesting, striking imagery and give food for thought to the viewer. Much of my style is expressive and spontaneous, painting straight on to canvas. Inspired by artist such as Francis Bacon, Lucian Freud and Jenny Saville.
